Travel Info
Many of you will have been to Hamble before, but we hope that those of you that haven't, will make the journey to visit us. This page contains lots of information about getting to Hamble, including public transport and directions for driving.
We would like to encourage you wherever possible to use public transport, as Hamble isn't a big place, there is limited car parking, plus it's a bit more environmentally friendly!
By Train...
The two main stations which connect to Hamble are Southampton and Portsmouth. You can get direct trains to Southampton from all over the UK including London, Bristol, Birmingham, Oxford etc etc.
Local services run from Southampton and Portsmouth into Hamble. However Hamble Station is on the edge of the village and it's quite a long walk with a big kit bag, so if you intend to come by train please either get a bus from Southampton into the centre of the village, or contact us as we can arrange pick ups from the station.
You can get train times here.
By Bus...
Hamble is well served by buses from Southampton. The No.16 runs from the city centre (10 mins walk from the train station) into the centre of Hamble (2 mins walk to RSnYC). Buses run until 2234 on a friday night, and after this the N16 service runs every hour until 0318. The bus will cost you £2.10.
Buses also run out of Hamble to Southampton every hour until 2305 on a Sunday.
Information on buses to Hamble can be found here.
We know that a few of you are thinking about coming to the WOKC from outside the UK, or from over the border in Scotland. The closest airport to Hamble is Southampton, which is approximately 20 mins drive from Hamble. Buses are available from Southampton Airport into Southampton, however if you are planning on flying into Southampton please contact us as we will arrange for someone to come and pick you up.
Other airports which are possible are Bournemouth, Gatwick and Heathrow. If you are travelling to any of these airports the best way to get to Hamble is to take a train, or if you are in a group hire a car. Again if you need picking up from a train station please contact us.
By Car...
Hamble is easy to reach by car, and probably the only village on the south coast to be directly signposted off the motorway!
You need to get onto the M27. There are a number of routes you can use but if coming from the north then most people come down the M3 (if coming from the north west) or the A3 (if coming from the North east).
The A3 joins the M27 at Portsmouth and you need to follow signs for M27 West towards Southampton.
The M3 joins the M27 at Southampton, and you need to follow signs for M27 East towards Portsmouth.
Which ever way you arrive at the M27 you need to get to Junction 8, which is sign posted for Hamble. Come off the motorway, and go through two roundabouts continuing to follow sign posts for Hamble.
This will take you past a giant Tesco Supermarket. Stop here for provisions if you are self catering!!! Continue through several mini roundabouts and sets of traffic lights following the main road and following signs for Hamble.
You'll know you are getting to Hamble when you go over a humped bridge (next to the train station) and come past a parade of shops on the right. Keep going down the road towards the village centre. You'll pass a fire station, a barclays bank and eventually come into the main village square.
There is a public car park in the square (2 mins walk from the club) or if you need to get a boat to the club, you need to turn right down the cobbled street behind the bus stops.
This is a tight bend, and you need to make this turn very slowly. Follow the cobbles down the hill, following the road to the left, past all the pubs, and the club is on the left hand side when you get to the water. The entrance to the club is on the left hand side, and again the road is narrow so please drive carefully!
You can see the location map here.

Need a lift...?
We want to help as many people as possible to attend the event. If you are travelling to Hamble for the first time and want advice on the best way to get here please contact us.
We will also help out with lifts from stations and airports if you need it. Please contact us if you think you may need assistance with your journey, and of course nearer the time we will give out a phone number in case anyone gets stuck!
Parking...
Unfortunately the club isn't able to offer parking for competitors. There are two pay and display car parks in the village which you can use, and all the marinas in the village provide car parking for those using their facilities. The Donkey Derby Field will also be open and sign posted once you are in the village.
We recommend that you leave your car at your accommodation once you arrive or in the Donkey Derby Field. If you are staying in the village you are never more than a 20 min walk from RSnYC anyway!
